From the recording Trivial Things
Song Description
“Trivial Things” is a dramatic cinematic bolero that compassionately confronts the danger of small compromises, hidden choices, and sins we dismiss as insignificant. Through alternating male and female vocals, nylon guitars, warm piano, Latin percussion, flugelhorn, and rising strings, the song traces how one seemingly harmless decision can gradually distance the heart from God.
Drawing from the fall in Eden, Cain’s warning, the law of sowing and reaping, and David’s prayer of repentance, the lyrics reveal that what we call trivial, Heaven may call consequential. Yet the message never ends in condemnation. It turns toward the Cross, where Jesus carried the debt we could never pay, and toward the mercy still extended to everyone willing to repent.
“Trivial Things” is both a warning and an invitation: recognize sin honestly, turn back while the heart can still respond, and ask God to create a clean heart and restore the joy of salvation. If you are still breathing, it is not too late. Help is here. His name is Jesus.

Em
Just one bite...
What could it hurt?
Just one whisper...
Just one word.
Just one secret
Hidden from the light.
Just one shadow
In the middle of the night.

The serpent smiled,
"You will not surely die."
The oldest lie
Still echoes through our lives.
One little compromise...
One little "yes"...
Until we hardly hear
Conviction in our chest.

What I called
Trivial things...
Heaven called
Everything.
What I thought
Would leave no scar
Slowly pulled
My heart afar.

Don't let me
Call darkness light.
Don't let me
Lose holy sight.
Wake my soul
Before it sleeps.
Lord, rescue me.
Em
Sin was crouching
At the door.
Silent as
A waiting roar.
Hidden in
The tallest grass.
Waiting for
My soul to pass.
C
Am
It never asked
To take my life.
Only one choice...
Only one night.
One more secret...
One more lie...
Until I could not
Lift my eyes.

The enemy
Needs no miracle
When I myself
Lay down my crown.
Every "yes"
Writes tomorrow's page.
Every seed
Produces grain.

I thought
The debt was small.
Then the collector
Came to call.
Years of harvest
Filled my hands
With things
I never planned.
Em
Create in me
A clean heart, Lord.
Renew in me
A steadfast soul.
Cast me not
From Your presence.
Do not take
Your Spirit from me.
C
Am
Take this stone
And breathe again.
Wash away
My hidden shame.
Give me tears
Where pride has been.
Make me whole
Deep within.

What I called
Trivial things...
Drove the nails
Into my King.
Yet His mercy
Calls my name.
His great love
Remains the same.

If I am breathing
There is hope.
If I will turn
He'll hold me close.
Mercy waits
With open hands.
Jesus still
Invites us in.
Em
[BOTH voices, softly building]
Forgive me,
My God.
Create in me
A clean heart.
Restore to me
The joy
Of Your salvation.
Help is here.
Jesus is here.
[Spoken gently over piano and strings]
If you are still breathing...
it is not too late.
If you have called sin
a trivial thing,
today is the day
to call it what God calls it.
The King of Glory
was tempted in every way
as we are,
yet without sin.
He carried the debt
we could never pay.
Fall upon your knees.
Call upon the Lord.
Cry out...
"Forgive me, my God."
Help is here.
His name is Jesus.
[Allow the music to fade into 4-5 seconds of complete silence.]
