From the recording Borrowed Crown
**BORROWED CROWN**
*The Crown Is Not the Glory | A Biblical Cinematic Oratorio*
A king clothed in dazzling silver. A crowd crying out that he is a god. A sudden silence—and a sobering encounter with the judgment of heaven.
Inspired by Acts 12:20–24 and the historical account of King Herod Agrippa I recorded by Josephus, *Borrowed Crown* brings a dramatic biblical moment to life through thundering trumpets, ancient flutes, sweeping orchestration, spoken narration, and majestic choirs.
But this is more than the story of a fallen king. It is a call to every pastor, leader, and believer to remember that no earthly crown, title, ministry, or human achievement deserves the worship belonging to Jesus Christ alone.
The song contrasts Herod's acceptance of divine praise with Peter's humility, reminding us to honor God's servants without placing them upon God's throne.
**“Honor the servant; worship God alone!”**
And when earthly glory fades, the Word of God continues to grow and multiply.
**The crown is not the glory. The glory is the Lord's!**

THE CROWN IS NOT THE GLORY
Song of the Rod — Acts 12
[Style: Biblical cinematic oratorio; 76 BPM, D minor to D major. Deep male narrator, male crowd choir, female response choir. Ancient flutes, silver trumpets, shofar-like horns, timpani, frame drums, strings. Spoken sections over music. No pop beat.]
[INTRO - Dm | Bb | Gm | A; distant flute, slow ceremonial drums]
[NARRATOR, spoken, grave]
In Caesarea, at the break of day,
a king came clothed in silver.
Josephus tells how sunlight struck his garment,
and the brightness stirred the crowd.
But silver only borrows light.
And no throne makes a mortal God.
[ROYAL PROCESSION - Dm | C | Bb | A; trumpets rise, drums double]
[MALE CHOIR, rhythmic]
Make way! Make way! The king appears!
The silver burns beneath the sun!
The court is loud, the trumpets sound,
the eyes of all are fixed on one!
[CROWD, shouted in layers]
The voice of a god!
Not the voice of a man!
The voice of a god!
[Brass swell; abrupt cutoff]
[THE SILENCE - single low D drone; five beats of silence]
[NARRATOR, spoken, almost whispered]
He did not give God the glory.
[MIDPOINT: THE ANGEL - one enormous timpani and brass strike; dissonant strings, then silence]
[NARRATOR, spoken, clear]
“And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him.”
Acts twelve, verse twenty-three.
[Low pulse; no sword sound]
The king was struck.
The splendor could not save him.
Josephus records his pain—and death five days later.
[One lone flute enters]
[TURNING - Gm | Dm | Bb | A; restrained strings]
[SOLO, solemn]
A borrowed crown, a borrowed light,
a breath that fades away.
What glory can a servant claim
before the Ancient of Days?
[SECOND WITNESS - Gm | Bb | F | C; warmer flute]
[NARRATOR, spoken]
Another man fell at the feet of Peter.
But Peter lifted him and said:
[PETER, firm, spoken]
“Stand up; I myself also am a man.”
[CHORUS - Bb | F | C | Dm; full choir, steady drums]
Stand up! Stand up! Let no man take His throne!
Honor the servant; worship God alone!
No crown, no robe, no earthly name
may ever steal the Savior's fame!
The crown is not the glory!
The glory is the Lord's!
[ADMONITION - Gm | Dm | A | Dm; drums low, spoken call and response]
[NARRATOR]
Shepherd, when they bow before you—
[CHOIR]
Lift them up!
[NARRATOR]
When they place you above correction—
[CHOIR]
Point to Christ!
[NARRATOR]
When the praise belongs to heaven—
[CHOIR]
Give Him glory!
[NARRATOR]
Feed His flock; do not rule as lords.
Be an example. Serve the Lord.
[FINAL ASCENT - key change D major: G | D | A | Bm; brass transformed, soaring choir]
[ALL]
LaAdonai ha-kavod!
To the Lord belongs the glory!
LaAdonai ha-kavod!
Tell the everlasting story!
Every knee before Yeshua,
every tongue confess His name!
Kings may fall and crowns may perish;
His Word rises just the same!
[OUTRO - G | D | A | D; drums cease, single trumpet, then flute]
[NARRATOR, spoken]
“But the word of God grew and multiplied.”
Acts twelve, verse twenty-four.
[CHOIR, softly]
The crown is not the glory.
The glory is the Lord's.
[End in silence]
